Caradh wins Silver Medal in Denmark

Caradh O’Donovan made a successful return to competitive action winning a silver medal in Denmark last Saturday. The Ishoj Karate Cup took place from 21-23 February and was the first competition for Caradh since a serious leg injury which saw her sidelined for eleven months.

Competing alongside other members from her club, the Irish Kenpo Karate Union, this event was targeted as a warm up for the Senior EKF European Championships taking place in Baku next month. Caradh has been selected to represent Ireland in the female -61kg kumite category.

Taking wins over opposition from Denmark and Scotland, Caradh came up against Viktoria Kraljevic from Sweden in the final. Finishing in a 0-0 draw, the judges opted to award the decision to the Swedish athlete, leaving Caradh returning home with a silver medal.

The European Championships will take place from Monday 23rd – Sunday 29th March in Baku, Azerbaijan.
